Abide in Christ and Watch God Produce Fruit Through Your Life

Illustrated devotional artwork of a person transforming into a tree, with roots wrapped around a glowing cross underground and branches bearing small story-like scenes representing the fruit of the Spirit, symbolizing a life rooted in Christ and producing visible spiritual fruit.
When your life is truly rooted in Christ, the fruit speaks for itself.  What grows above the surface is shaped by what you cling to below. Abide in Him—and let love, patience, peace, and faithfulness become visible through how you live.

John 15:4

“Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.”

Abide.

When I ask how I can pray for my fellow brothers in Christ, this is often their request: “I want to abide in the Lord.”

For those types of requests, I pray that the Lord gives them extra grace and mercy so they can hear, see, and then obey. Abiding in Christ isn’t something I feel the Lord simply does for us. It’s a choice we make with our free will.

God has already given us everything we need to decide to abide in Christ. He is trustworthy. We have seen His blessings, and He keeps His promises.

I love how Jesus explains this truth in John 15. He presents it in a way that makes sense for every generation. We have all seen a tree with a dead or broken branch—something that has been separated from the life-giving tree. It could have been a storm, a careless person, or simply the weight of what was resting on it that pushed it too far.

We are that branch, and our Heavenly Father is the life-giving tree.

To abide in Christ, we must desire and be intentional about our relationship with God. He should be our first thought when we rise in the morning and our last thought when we close our eyes at night. This constant state of fellowship with our Father is what produces amazing fruit.

Fix your thoughts on the Lord, and you will be amazed at how your eyes open. You will begin to see God’s hand in every situation you encounter. His teaching will make sense, and you will not only be blessed—you will see how to apply it to your life.

Our branch will only remain healthy and bear fruit if we live out an obedient and enduring relationship with our Father. We must allow endurance to grow. It seems to be part of God’s plan for everyone I have met so far. When we abide in Christ, the testing of our faith comes with the understanding that it is for our good and for our growth.

This constant fellowship with the Lord only happens through faith, trust, and obedience. You cannot have one without the others. They work together to keep us connected to our Father and to help this world make sense—making the hurt, pain, and suffering bearable, like a strong branch firmly attached to the life-giving tree.

I pray that the Lord pours out His grace and mercy on you as you seek to abide in Christ. The solution to abiding is simple, but living it out will be a constant work for the rest of our lives.

Thank You, Father, for one more day. Amen.

Philippians 4:8-9

[8] And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. [9] Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.
