Luke 12:40 NLT
“You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.”
This chapter in Luke is awesome. Reading the genius of Jesus is something I really enjoy.
Being ready all the time is so much more than just being excited about the Lord’s return. Scripture reminds us that to be ready for the Lord’s return means living intentionally with what He has already entrusted to us. We have been given precious gifts and talents that, when used according to God’s will, yield an incredible return. It’s an investment on our part—one rooted in trust in God’s promises.
Fixing our gaze on His Kingdom is how we gain the strength and understanding to keep pushing forward, especially when life feels heavy or uncertain. When our focus stays eternal, our daily obedience starts to make sense. God is expecting much from those to whom He has entrusted much, and being ready for the Lord’s return means remaining faithful with what’s already in our hands.
Jesus continues this teaching with a powerful reminder:
Luke 12:42 NLT
“And the Lord replied, ‘A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them.’”
Faithfulness isn’t passive. It’s active stewardship. It’s showing up, staying alert, and serving with consistency even when no one is watching. A faithful, sensible servant doesn’t wait for perfect conditions—he stays ready, prepared, and obedient.
So stay focused. Stay faithful. Stay in prayer and grounded in the Word of God. When we live this way, we are found ready—not just waiting for His return, but actively honoring Him until He comes.
