Ephesians 4:2-4 (NLT)
“Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future.”
Absolutely amazing scripture. The book of Ephesians is filled with wisdom and challenge, and this passage reminds us what true brotherhood in Christ looks like—unity in the Spirit.
This morning, the Lord put on my heart the loner. The guy who stands off to the side at church, maybe shy, maybe unsure if he belongs. Sometimes doing nothing—ignoring him—is just as hurtful as pushing him away. But Christ gave us a different example: seek out the one who is on the outside. Inclusion isn’t just polite—it could mean all the difference for their soul.
When someone notices you, introduces themselves, or pulls you into their circle, it’s powerful. That small act of love can spark transformation. I’ve been guilty of just hanging with my buddies at church, caught in conversation, but Ephesians 4:2-4 reminds me to stay aware. As we gather, the Holy Spirit can prompt us to look around and invite others in. That’s what the church is about—not cliques, but unity in the Spirit.
We don’t just go to church to be fed a sermon; we’re called to immediately put love into action. Is the love we show at church the same love Jesus showed when He loved the least of these? Some people are different, some are difficult, and some are just plain weird. I get that—I’m a weird guy myself. My humor is different, my thought process is different, and I’ve struggled to make friends because of it.
But God placed amazing brothers in my life who reached out to me anyway. They loved me despite my quirks, and that love changed my life. It pointed me to the deeper truth of my Savior’s love. It made me ask, “How could someone love me this much?” That question ignited a fire in my soul, and years later that flame still burns strong.
And it all started because some men chose to live out unity in the Spirit (Ephesians 4:2-4) by reaching out to the “weird guy.”
Brothers and sisters, let’s pray for boldness. Look around. Invite someone in. Be patient, humble, and gentle—just as the Word commands. When we do this, we aren’t just building friendships; we’re strengthening the body of Christ.
Amen.
Colossians 3:14-15 (NLT)
“Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.”
