Christian Faith and Labor Day: When Bold Obedience Changes Lives.
Colossians 3:23-25
[23] Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. [24] Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ. [25] But if you do what is wrong, you will be paid back for the wrong you have done. For God has no favorites.
For a long time, Labor Day never made sense to me until I researched the people and the meaning behind it. After diving pretty deep, I uncovered some pretty amazing information. Christianity played an important role in parts of the labor movement, with people whose belief in God's Word drove them to make a difference and stand up for something the Lord had put on their hearts.
They chose to battle and fight for workers because they believed people were made in the image of God, that their work had dignity, and that they should not be exploited. Learning about the connection between Christian faith and Labor Day gave me a completely different perspective on a holiday I had never really thought much about.
Look how that kind of faith and boldness paid off. Here I am drinking coffee, thankful that my kids don't have school and my wife doesn't have work, because people before us were willing to stand up for workers. In the moment, those who felt called to boldly stand up for what the Lord put on their hearts were probably anxious. They were scared. They had no idea if they would win the battle. Their belief in God's promises gave them strength, and through their faith and courage, their actions helped millions of people.
That is what really struck me while learning about Christian faith and Labor Day. We are all called to stand boldly for our belief in God's love. Sharing your story and what the Lord is doing in your life can be just as meaningful. Your life and the things you've been through are not wasted when they are used to glorify God. Your mistakes, your failures, and even the hurt you've caused can make your testimony more relatable. It highlights God's grace and love and shows that there is hope.
Be bold and courageous! Let the Holy Spirit lead you and share what He puts on your heart, no matter where or when. You never know—someone might be talking about it over a hundred years from now.
