Matthew 17:20
“You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.”
Faith. Have you ever seen a mountain move?
I know many of us have seen mountain-sized problems resolved by the Lord’s miracles, and that is amazing. But what about an actual mountain? I understand that most believe Jesus was talking about obstacles or challenges—the “mountains” in life.
Yet as you read God’s Word and begin to understand who He is—His character, His power—you start to notice that His statements are never simple or limited. They can be reread over and over again, and the depth we reach is only limited by our understanding.
Take this verse for example: “move from here to there.” Was Jesus stretching our
understanding on purpose? Was He inviting us into something far bigger than metaphor?
He wants us to have faith to move mountains—faith that believes an actual mountain could move if we truly believed.
A real mountain. Squirrels, deer, mountain lions all hanging on as the mountain floats from one place to another.
Now that is limitless faith. And that is the kind of faith God desires for us.
Can you imagine the life we could live with faith like that? As Jesus said, we could ask for anything in His name, and He will do it. Our human minds can’t help but limit God. We convince ourselves there are levels in this life that are simply impossible.
“Do you have any idea how heavy a mountain actually is? Of course it can’t move.”
Not true.
Our God is limitless. His power is unlimited. The only thing that limits Him in our lives is a lack of faith. Faith to move mountains begins with believing He truly can.
Let’s remember that what the Lord offers us is always for our good and for the good of others through His love. He is all-powerful whether we believe it or not. But our faith is what allows God’s power to actively change our lives and lead us into the life He planned for us—one without limits.
I pray this encourages you to seek that kind of faith—to seek a life where you stop shrinking God down to human understanding and start believing for the impossible. It’s never too late to grow in faith to move mountains.
Thank You, Father, for one more day. Amen.
John 14:12-14
[12] I tell you for certain that if you have faith in me, you will do the same things I am doing. You will do even greater things, now that I am going back to the Father. [13] Ask me, and I will do whatever you ask. This way the Son will bring honor to the Father. [14] I will do whatever you ask me to do.
