Fearfully and Wonderfully Made—Even When You Don’t Feel Like It

A distressed man stands with his head in his hands, facing a cracked mirror. In the reflection, he appears calm, confident, and glowing—symbolizing God’s perfect design. Bold text above reads “Built Different,” and at the bottom, the phrase “You are fearfully and wonderfully made” is displayed.
What you see isn’t always the truth. Even when your head is low and your heart is heavy, God sees the masterpiece He made. You are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Psalm 139:13–17 (NLT)

“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.”—Psalm 139:13–14

Can you see how wonderful you are?

In the sight of the Lord, you are fearfully and wonderfully made—exactly as He planned. I know I struggle with remembering that at times. The enemy loves to whisper reminders of the parts of me I’d rather forget. It’s so easy to look in the mirror and pick that guy apart.

But as believers, we know and trust that God never makes mistakes. He had your shape, your color, your face, and your hair picked out long before you were ever born.

When you arrived in this world, He looked at you, considered His plan for your life, and said, “Perfect.”

All the intricate parts that make you you were carefully chosen by the Creator of the universe—put together with intention and love. When I stop and really think about that, it’s humbling. Sure, I might have chosen a few different pieces if it were up to me, but there’s a deep joy in knowing this body—flaws and all—was made to carry out its purpose. And along the way, it’s helped form some amazing friendships too.

If you ever struggle with self-worth, remember this: you are fearfully and wonderfully made for a specific purpose. Thank God for the intentional design behind your life.

Just imagine how many beautiful, unique people are walking around—designed by God for a particular calling—but they have no idea. No direction. No sense of purpose. It’s heartbreaking.

That’s why we’re called to live as examples—people who actually believe God’s ways and plans are higher than ours. Even when all we can see are the imperfections, we trust that His design is good.

So praise God for calling us, for creating us with such care, and for giving our lives meaning.

Amen.

Psalm 139:15–17 (NLT)

“You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!”
