Flee Youthful Lusts: Finding Strength in God and Brotherhood

A young man walks away from a street filled with women in revealing clothing and neon temptations, turning instead toward a coffee shop where a group of men study the Bible together. Text above reads: ‘Flee Youthful Lusts – 2 Timothy 2:22.’
Every day we face a choice: give in to temptation or walk toward truth. God’s Word tells us to flee youthful lusts and run toward righteousness, faith, and brotherhood in Christ (2 Timothy 2:22).

2 Timothy 2:22

“Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.”

This is a tough one. One that every man struggles with, but almost no man wants to talk about. The enemy has done a good job at making us think this needs to be private and fought alone. But Scripture is clear—we are called to flee youthful lusts and run toward righteousness.

Lust is and always will be with us. Only the delusional and proud will think they have it beat.

God designed us to be attracted to women, and that in itself is not wrong. Where it went wrong started with man’s free will and the enemy slowly pulling us further and further down. That’s why we see less and less clothing—or more revealing clothing—as time goes on.

This is one area of our lives that cannot be won alone. We need our brothers to hold us accountable and to constantly pray for us. We need to fight this urge like our lives depend on it. God has given us all the grace and mercy we could ever need if we just resist and cling to Him.

We live in a time where it’s almost impossible to walk down the street without the enemy trying to trip us up. That’s why Paul tells us to flee youthful lusts. If we encounter a situation that stirs temptation, we need to pray immediately. Make it a habit of praying throughout your day. In those moments, ask for strength to resist and to control your thoughts. Because we all know—it’s the thoughts afterward that cause the real problem.

Make a plan. Don’t fool yourself into thinking today will be temptation-free. Instead, prepare for the battle, pray for protection, and lean on your brothers in Christ. We can do this—with God’s help and with accountability.

If you need someone to hold you accountable and you want to make that change, please reach out. That’s what this website, this brotherhood, is all about.

1 John 2:15–17

“Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.”
