Psalms 24:1-4
[1] The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him.[2] For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths.[3] Who may climb the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place?[4] Only those whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols and never tell lies.
It all starts with your heart. This chapter is pretty awesome—David is asking a question many of us have asked: Who can actually be worthy to stand before God? Since He is holy and we are sinful, the natural answer is that we are not fit to worship Him properly.
But thank God for a supernatural encounter that changed everything. Our hearts were transformed to mirror the Father’s. That transformation is the foundation of a true Heart of Worship.
As I write this, I’m dealing with a rebellious attitude in my family. It’s amazing how the enemy will try to creep in right when you are actively fighting to keep your heart right for worship. The only blessing in the moment is that I was already guarding my heart, so having to fight even harder wasn’t as overwhelming.
I love my kids deeply, and as they grow older, I’m given more opportunities to put into practice what the Lord teaches me about keeping a Heart of Worship. There will always be distractions—moments designed to steal our peace and shift our focus. It’s so easy to let anger take over, to say things in frustration that we later regret. And when that happens, the only way back is through repentance, asking for forgiveness, and returning to the Father’s presence.
Despite the distractions and spiritual battles, we must fight to keep a right heart before God. That’s what a Heart of Worship is—choosing Him above our emotions, above the chaos, and above what the enemy throws at us.
Even though I truly dislike disrespectful attitudes and the feelings that come when they’re addressed, I’m thankful for the real-life practice of keeping my heart fixed on Him. These moments teach me that worship isn’t confined to a Sunday service; it’s lived out daily in the way we respond, forgive, and love. Praise God for His love, patience, and His relentless call to draw near. Amen.
Psalms 24:5-6
[5] They will receive the Lord’s blessing and have a right relationship with God their savior.[6] Such people may seek you and worship in your presence, O God of Jacob.
