Mark 9:23–24
[23] Jesus replied, “Why do you say ‘if you can’? Anything is possible for someone who has faith!”[24] At once the boy's father shouted, “I do have faith! Please help me to have even more.”
How many times have you been there?
Praying with all the faith you have at that moment—and the Lord meets you. He bridges the gap and comes to you right where you are. In this passage, we see Jesus respond directly to the father of the demon-possessed child. “Why do you say ‘if you can’?” It almost sounds like a rebuke.
Now imagine being that dad.
His child had been possessed since he was young. Everything he had seen, everything he had lived through, must have taken a toll on his spirit. Years of watching the enemy work in someone you love, years of being unable to fix it, stop it, or protect them—I know I would have been completely worn down. Discouraged. Exhausted.
Hearing about Jesus must have sparked hope in his heart. With all the Help My Unbelief faith he could muster, he brought his son to the Lord. And his plea still tugs at my heart every time I read it:“I do have faith! Please help me to have even more.”
Sometimes that is all we can do.
And when the Lord sees our hearts, He meets us where we are. If you are going through a situation right now and you feel like you can’t quite get there—can’t quite do what you know you must—pray. Reach out to the Lord. Tell Him honestly what is holding you back and ask Him to meet you there. That prayer of Help My Unbelief faith is not weakness; it is humility.
Think of that dad now—seeing his son restored, no longer under the enemy’s influence. That moment must have been incredible. And I guarantee you this: his faith grew because of it.
That is the point.
We cannot please God without faith, but faith is developed. It takes time. It takes steps. And sometimes it takes the Lord Himself bridging the gap for us. His love for us is amazing. Faith doesn’t start with perfection—it starts with willingness. Help My Unbelief faith begins when we choose to step, even when we aren’t sure where our foot will land.
Imagine trying to take a step when you have no idea what’s underneath you. That’s what faith often feels like. In this example, the Lord isn’t pulling you forward. He isn’t pushing you either. He’s taking you by the hand and giving you just enough peace to step.
It’s a beautiful picture of God’s grace, mercy, and love.
Let’s get steppin.
Thank you, Father, for another day. Amen.
Hebrews 11:1–3
[1] Faith makes us sure of what we hope for and gives us proof of what we cannot see.[2] It was their faith that made our ancestors pleasing to God.[3] Because of our faith, we know that the world was made at God's command. We also know that what can be seen was made out of what cannot be seen.
