Listening to God and Obeying: The Key to Confident Decisions

Listen and obey.
I remember when I really didn’t know how to do either one of those. Not that I’ve got them down perfectly—trust me, I still have work to do.
One that was especially difficult was the listening part. How do you actually hear God? Is it an audible voice or what?
I had a lot of questions, and I’m really thankful I had a mentor who was grounded in truth and had a strong understanding. It’s easy for people to get misled, or even believe that hearing from God doesn’t really happen.
Now, when I’m making decisions, I really try to focus on listening to God and obeying what He’s placing on my heart. I honestly don’t move forward until I get direction and confirmation. It’s become that important. I’ve learned that seeking God daily matters—no decision is too big or too small.
And when we commit to listening to God and obeying, something shifts. We begin making decisions that are aligned with His will instead of just reacting to what’s in front of us. That means we’re actually stepping into what God has planned for us.
His plan is full of purpose and fulfillment. And it’s incredible how rewarding it becomes—even when we can’t fully see it yet.
It reminds me of a farmer. The work doesn’t always look like progress at first. You’re planting, watering, waiting. But your faithfulness matters. Those seeds don’t stay buried forever.
In the same way, listening to God and obeying plants seeds in our lives that will bring a harvest later—sometimes after a long wait.
But because we trust His promises, we don’t have to wonder if it’s coming.
We KNOW it is.
Thank you, Father, for one more day. Amen.
James 1:19-25
[19] My dear friends, you should be quick to listen and slow to speak or to get angry.[20] If you are angry, you cannot do any of the good things God wants done.[21] You must stop doing anything immoral or evil. Instead be humble and accept the message planted in you to save you.[22] Obey God's message! Don't fool yourselves by just listening to it.[23] If you hear the message and don't obey it, you are like people who stare at themselves in a mirror[24] and forget what they look like as soon as they leave.[25] But you must never stop looking at the perfect law that sets you free. God will bless you in everything you do, if you listen and obey, and don't just hear and forget.
