Matthew 5:9
“God blesses those people who make peace. They will be called his children!”
Peacemaker. Other than being the historic name of a pistol, it’s who we are called to be in Christ. In all situations, we are to strive for peace.
I see this a lot in my own family. Sometimes I come home and walk straight into a disagreement or fight over something small. In those moments, I have a choice: I can join in and start yelling, or I can step into the role of a peacemaker. Let me tell you—it’s work. Sometimes both sides are out for blood, and nothing short of peace through the Spirit will satisfy.
This is what Matthew 5:9 calls us to. You are called to be a peacemaker. In every situation where you can lead or help, you should work toward peace. That’s not weakness—it’s biblical leadership. The Lord will lead you down the right path when you are faithful, because true peace only exists in a right relationship with our Heavenly Father.
The peace God calls us to isn’t the absence of problems or battles. It’s the ability to look past the problems to a deeper peace, rooted in the truth that God is in control. It’s the reminder that the other person is your brother or sister in Christ, and both of you are dearly loved children of God.
Letting go of differences and meaningless disagreements brings peace. Some differences are God-designed and should be celebrated. The Holy Spirit gives us inner peace, even in the face of difficult decisions and conflicts. But here’s the reality:
Right relationship = peace.
Wrong relationship = no peace.
The peace given by our Heavenly Father does not exist outside His love. Stay close to Him, seek peace in all you do, and let His Spirit guide you as a true peacemaker.
Galatians 5:22–26 reminds us:
“[22] God's Spirit makes us loving, happy, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, [23] gentle, and self-controlled. There is no law against behaving in any of these ways. [24] And because we belong to Christ Jesus, we have killed our selfish feelings and desires. [25] God's Spirit has given us life, and so we should follow the Spirit. [26] But don't be conceited or make others jealous by claiming to be better than they are.”
Thank you, Father, for one more day to walk as Your child and to choose peace over conflict. Amen.
