Measure Your Day by God’s Faithfulness

Stop measuring the day by what you accomplished and start measuring it by the faithfulness of the God who carried you through it.

Lamentations 3:22-24

[22] The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. [23] Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. [24] I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”

Each day starts kind of the same: get up, get ready, spend time with my Heavenly Father, then start getting my family up and going. One slight alteration and everything is off; I even feel off.

After touching on this a while back, I feel the Lord is giving me new insight into living every day in His will. Our days change, and our plans change, and that can wreak havoc on our minds and create a problem. Despite how our day starts off, our calling is still the same: Obey.

The situations can vary greatly, but in that, we still have a solid foundation for how we handle them. Our faith in God’s design and plan for us is really the only way we can encounter change and problems with a spirit of joy. Talking to your Heavenly Father throughout the day, sharing your worries, thanking Him, and trying to see what He is saying to you through it all keeps your mind off the scary and on the unchanging. When everything around us feels uncertain, God’s faithfulness gives us something solid to stand on.

Just like I am trying to teach my children, we have everything we need to make the correct choice—the choice that is rooted in faith and obedience. We know God is good, we know He has saved us before, we know He will not and has not left us, so now we use all that evidence to conclude that our only answer is to trust Him again.

We need to make that step; our Father will not make it for us. Make time for Him, pray, read His Word, and, I can’t stress this enough, ponder it. Think about it throughout your day as if you’re trying to figure out the winning lottery numbers.

Love is what we all need to work on and what God’s will and Word are founded on. Obedience is for our benefit and the benefit of the people around us. Loving the world one person at a time starts with mirroring the unconditional love God showed you and believing you are worthy of His love. Not because you’re so great and you make great decisions, but because God is great.

The truth of our identity as His creation is what makes us worthy of His love, grace, and mercy. Thankfully, our value, dignity, and worth are based solely on us being made in the image of God. Truthfully, it can be a struggle to believe that some days, but when I do, it completely changes why I do anything.

If the Lord calls me to do something, I need to do it with the attitude of, “I am confident this will be good because of my faith in God’s purpose and power.”

We need to start our days by intentionally forming habits that stop us from measuring our day by our own works and start measuring it by God’s faithfulness. Our plans may change. Our circumstances may change. But the One we are trusting has not.

Thank you, Father, for one more day. Amen

2 Corinthians 3:4-5

[4] We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ. [5] It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God.
