1 Thessalonians 5:17
Never stop praying.
Today, I felt the Lord pressing on my heart the importance of prayer. Prayer is our direct communication with our Heavenly Father—the Creator of the universe. When Scripture tells us to never stop praying, it isn’t calling us to a ritual, but to a relationship.
Think of it this way: if a child only came to their father when they wanted something, that relationship would feel one-sided. “Daddy, I want a new toy!” “Daddy, can I have a snack?” But when the father simply wants to spend time with his child, love on them, and be present with them—the child often won’t give him the time of day.
Too often, we treat God the same way. We come running only with “Save me!” or “I need this!” But God is not Santa Claus. If our prayers are limited to requests, we miss out on something bigger, deeper, and far more precious: a genuine relationship with our Heavenly Father.
To truly live out the command to never stop praying, we must learn to pray beyond our needs. Take time to lay down your problems, yes—but also take time to be satisfied with what you already have. Pray simply to know Him better. Sit in His presence. Offer thanks and praise. Listen for His voice.
As your relationship with God grows, so will your prayers. At some point, prayer becomes second nature. You’ll find yourself praying over everything—not out of habit, but because your heart is in tune with your Father. Your understanding deepens, your gratitude grows, and your prayers gain power because they flow from relationship, not desperation.
Take a moment today to assess your prayer life. Think about your last five big prayers. What were they about? Were they mostly wants and needs—or thanks and praise? Everyone reading this has something to be thankful for. His mercies and blessings are new every morning. Look for them. Enjoy them. And most importantly—thank your Father for them.
Amen.
Philippians 4:6–7
[6] Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. [7] Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
