Personal Revival: When the Old You Finally Dies

A man walks away from a broken version of himself across dry, cracked ground as shattered chains fall behind him. A bright cross-shaped beam of light shines from the sky ahead, symbolizing freedom, personal revival, and new life through Christ.
Stop dragging around what God already made dead.

Romans 6:11-12

[11] So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus. [12] Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires.

There has been a lot of talk about revival lately and it's got me thinking. I usually do not talk about it because I've seen and heard about it online or through friends and, frankly, I'm jaded. They start out as such an awesome idea with a really powerful message, but they often don't last very long. Some might stick around for days or even weeks, but then they fade away like dust in the wind.

Something about that has always bothered me.

Early on in my walk I joined a bunch of men's Bible studies and men's meetings knowing I needed major help. But as soon as I walked out the door I felt forgotten, unworthy, or just not part of the group. I would overhear guys talk about getting together or setting up coffee or lunch meetups, but they never felt led to include anyone else.

It started to build resentment. This was the opposite of what I expected from a church group; it felt like high school. What the heck was going on?

I encountered this for a reason. Seeing the hypocrisy opened my eyes to a new way of reaching men through God's love. That's what we need and desire: God's love through realizing we are wanted, we are desired, and we are enough.

The old insecure, shy, quiet, apprehensive version of us is dead.

These constructs devised by the enemy have no power unless we give it to them. If we believe these lies they become bigger and bolder and eventually start to change us.

This message is not for the guys that I mentioned above. This is for the guys that have been rejected.

The old you can't handle rejection, but that guy is dead.

The new us is unaffected, unashamed, and knows we are loved because God said we are.

True personal revival starts here.

It begins by accepting and believing that you have a purpose in the Kingdom and that man's opinion of you is meaningless.

Stop dragging that dead body around and run this race as a new man who is dead to the power of sin, dead to the power of rejection, and no longer dry bones. Your sin does not define you.

Personal revival is not an event. It is not a conference, a worship night, or an emotional moment.

Personal revival begins when you believe what God says is true.

Your revival will start in your heart and by the power of the Lord spread to everyone you encounter.

Thank you, Father, for one more day. Amen.

Ezekiel 37:11-14

[11] Then he said to me, “Son of man, these bones represent the people of Israel. They are saying, ‘We have become old, dry bones—all hope is gone. Our nation is finished.’ [12] Therefore, prophesy to them and say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: O my people, I will open your graves of exile and cause you to rise again. Then I will bring you back to the land of Israel. [13] When this happens, O my people, you will know that I am the Lord. [14] I will put my Spirit in you, and you will live again and return home to your own land. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken, and I have done what I said. Yes, the Lord has spoken!’”
