2 Samuel 22:16-20
[16] Then at the command of the Lord, at the blast of his breath, the bottom of the sea could be seen, and the foundations of the earth were laid bare. [17] “He reached down from heaven and rescued me; he drew me out of deep waters. [18] He rescued me from my powerful enemies, from those who hated me and were too strong for me. [19] They attacked me at a moment when I was in distress, but the Lord supported me. [20] He led me to a place of safety; he rescued me because he delights in me.
Today is a day of praise to the Lord. I'm sure all of you praise God daily for His love and grace, but today this is about recognizing His awesome power.
In this song from David, he is praising God for all of the victories, rescues, and creative ways he was bailed out of trouble. David has had a long, adventure-filled life up to this point. The amount of stuff he's gone through is incredible! Ups and downs, obeying and disobeying, from king to running from a king, lowly shepherd to the wealthiest man alive. That's quite a resume.
In all of this, David remembered who put him in that palace and brought him victory in each battle. Even later in life during a famine, he remembers to ask the Lord what this is all about, and the Lord speaks to him and tells him how to rectify the situation. The point is that David, even at his lowest and highest points, never lost sight of who God is or God's power working throughout his life.
So today, as you're moving through whatever is in store for you, I pray you intentionally recognize God's power and thank Him for the adventure your life has been. In each situation He has shown His power and love, and it's our job to recognize it and thank Him for it.
Just as David has seen and is in awe of the mighty God we serve, we are called to show our reverence.
This perspective creates a healthy fear of the Lord and awe of His power.
It can be easy to lose sight of that in our daily grind.
If God is for us, who could ever be against us?
Thank you, Father, for one more day. Amen.
Romans 8:31-34
[31] What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? [32] Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? [33] Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. [34] Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.
