Remember God's Faithfulness: Never Forget Your Egypt

Never forget the valley where God met you. Every rescue is a reason to praise Him.

Deuteronomy 8:11-14

[11] “But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today. [12] For when you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in, [13] and when your flocks and herds have become very large and your silver and gold have multiplied along with everything else, be careful! [14] Do not become proud at that time and forget the Lord your God, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt.

These verses are so powerful and so important for each of us to apply to our everyday lives. Each of us, no matter how big or small our story may seem, has been brought out of our own Egypt. My Egypt was a near-death experience after years of my body slowly failing me. We have all seen it happen before—people are restored, life gets better, and before long they move on, almost forgetting what God just brought them through. As followers of Christ, our lives are no longer our own story. We traded our story for His, and remembering God's faithfulness keeps our hearts centered on Him.

So how do we make sure we never forget our Egypt?

For me, it starts with prayer. Every morning I wake up, I thank God because not that long ago I honestly wondered if one morning I wouldn't wake up at all. At the end of every message I send, I include a thank you to God for one more day. That isn't just a catchy phrase. Most days, I have tears of joy in my eyes as I type those words because they remind me of what the Lord has done.

Maybe we should intentionally set aside time each week to look back over our lives and thank God for every rescue, every provision, every act of grace, every answered prayer, and every moment of peace He has given us. Making thankfulness a daily habit is one of the greatest ways of remembering God's faithfulness. It gives us the courage to take the next step into the unknown and the strength to keep walking through the next hardship. I've also found that sharing my testimony keeps those memories fresh and reminds me that every victory belongs to Him.

I am so blessed to be here with you, my brothers and sisters, celebrating what the Lord has done in my life. When I think about where I was not very long ago, I am overwhelmed with awe, gratitude, and wonder. God has been so incredibly good to me.

When I look back, as I encourage you to do today, I see many valleys, but I also see countless mountaintops. Every mountaintop reminds me of God's love and faithfulness. Looking back doesn't erase the valleys, but it gives them purpose. Through every season, I can clearly see the Lord leading me, carrying me, and never leaving me alone.

I truly believe that when you intentionally look back through the lens of gratitude, you will begin remembering God's faithfulness in ways you may have overlooked before. Thankfulness in action means remembering, sharing, and intentionally praising our Heavenly Father for all He has done. Our testimony is one of the greatest reminders that God never leaves His children.

Thank You, Father, for one more day. Amen.
