Small Under the Stars, Known by God: God’s Love for Humanity

A silhouette of a person standing on a rock beneath a vibrant star-filled night sky with the Milky Way visible. The words “I know your name” are faintly written in the stars, and the text at the bottom reads “Billions of stars... Still, He knows my name. Psalm 8:3–4.”
When the vastness of creation makes you feel small, remember this—the One who made it all knows your name. He sees you. He hears you. And He loves you beyond measure.

Psalm 8:3–4

“When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers— the moon and the stars you set in place— what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?”

Who am I to plead with the Lord for help? Why should He listen to anything we have to say or ask?

Because of God’s love for humanity, that’s why. We are part of His royal family. We are His children. He loves us deeply and knows each of us intimately. What an awesome God we serve.

When I look at my son and daughter, I’m full of joy. I remember holding each of them in one arm. Sure, they can be disrespectful and disobedient—they push me to places I try hard not to go—but the love I have for them never leaves. Not once does hate creep in and throw me off course. That bond we have in love is powerful. It overcomes pain and anything else we face. And yet, when I compare that love to God’s love for humanity, it doesn't even register. Not even to the first mark.

God is love. The only reason I can love—or even know what love is—is because He loved us first. That is where He operates from at all times. His love is so deep, it’s impossible to comprehend. He always forgives. He always helps. He always desires a better relationship with us.

Believe in Him. Not only will His love forgive you and give you a new start—it will give you purpose. For the first time in your life, what you do will matter beyond yourself and beyond this world. That’s the beauty of God’s love for humanity—it gives our lives eternal meaning.

The earth itself reflects His love for all of us. Not what man has done to it, but praise God, there are still places untouched and beautiful. The sky is my personal favorite. I remember a summer campout in the desert where we’d go on nighttime walks. No one looked down. Every eye was lifted. It felt like you could see every star in the sky. It was the most mind-blowing sight I’ve ever seen. To this day, I still catch myself looking up, lost in wonder at the vast brilliance of space.

Those stars, that sky, the beauty of creation—they’re all there to point us to the Lord. They declare His power and glory. And when we truly look at it, we begin to see something more: God’s love for humanity—wrapped into every detail.

He made all of those stars and planets... and still knows me by name.

He made all the beautiful plants, trees, and flowers that fill the world with wonder... and still knows your name.

That’s the point of it all. Every single part of creation points to our Heavenly Father. His love for you is personal, intimate, and boundless. That is God’s love for humanity.
