The Power of Prayer Is More Than a Miracle

Today's testimony is brought to you by my Heavenly Father.
This is a testimony I've shared before, but the beauty of growing in the Lord means looking back at these moments can uncover a new understanding.
I recall one normal Wednesday working in my shop. As the owner, I made a point to befriend everyone who was a regular, including suppliers and tool salesmen. I still have many of those friendships today. The Lord blessed me with them, and they bore fruit.
After years of talking to a guy once a week, you begin to know him and what he has going on. One particular tool guy was also a Christian, and we often spoke about things happening in the world. He was really struggling because his wife was suffering from a chronic illness that made him the primary caregiver for her daily needs while also trying to run his business. He wasn't angry that he had to care for her, but that she was suffering and felt like a burden on him. His heart was in the right place, and I'm sure he continually reassured her that she wasn't a burden. I could see in his eyes that this was incredibly hard for him.
So we prayed for her over and over, asking the Lord for healing and restoration. I don't know if she ever recovered, but I know my brother encountered the Holy Spirit and experienced His love and peace. The power of prayer developed a bond in the Lord between us that would become important later.
Another Wednesday came, and I saw him walking toward my shop. The moment he came in, I could tell something wasn't right.
I said, "What's up, buddy?"
He said, "Yesterday afternoon driving home, my vision was blurry, so I kept rubbing my eyes and it wouldn't clear up. I covered one eye, and I could see fine. I covered the other... and I could only see white."
I could tell he was afraid. Of course he was—I would have been terrified too. I didn't know what to say because long ago, after my dad passed away, I made a commitment to do my best to never use platitudes. They were terrible when I was suffering. So I offered the best thing I had to give.
"Let me pray over you, brother."
I put my hand on his shoulder, and we prayed. He started to cry. It made tears begin welling up in my own eyes. I asked the Lord for peace and understanding, and for the power in the name of Jesus to heal him.
We finished praying, and I looked up to see tears streaming down his face. He thanked me. His vision wasn't restored, but his faith was.
At that moment, I was a little irritated because here we were with hearts wide open, asking the Lord for healing, and we got nothing.
Then the Lord opened my eyes.
My brother needed to be loved.
I began to realize how deeply this simple act of prayer had touched him. He hugged me and thanked me again. As he walked out of the shop, he turned around, looked at me, and said, "Thank you," one more time, still crying.
He was eventually healed, but in that moment the Lord showed me something I'll never forget. We can still love people without immediately seeing miracles. Sometimes the power of prayer isn't just found in physical healing—it's found in reminding someone they are loved, seen, and not alone.
Maybe caring for his wife had left him feeling isolated or unseen. I don't know. But we all know the enemy loves to attack us when we're at our lowest.
I thank the Lord that He used me to help my brother simply by being a conduit for God's love. This testimony taught me to never pass up an opportunity to pray for someone. Sometimes all a person needs is to experience the love of God through another believer. The power of prayer is often revealed long before we ever see the final outcome.
Thank you, Father, for one more day.
Amen.
