Trusting God in Hard Times When You Don’t Understand His Plan.

You don’t need to understand what God is doing to trust where He is leading. Faith takes the next step, even when the only thing you can see is the fire.

Job 42:2-3

[2] “I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you. [3] You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’ It is I—and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me.

Yesterday, I was talking with a brother about how we pray in hardships or trials. Broken, depressed, and hopeless, we realized that our only hope is in God's plan. Sometimes we get a little ignorant, right? What I mean is, we start to question the way God answers our prayers.

As we have read in the book of Job, that guy just got wrecked for a long time. From a worldly perspective, he deserves some answers. In the last chapters, God challenges Job and puts him firmly back in his lane. Life is unfair and confusing, but trusting God in hard times and relying on His wisdom is the only way we can take it and keep moving forward. Like that famous quote from Rocky, "It's not about how hard you can hit; it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward."

With our trust in God, we can take the hits! In Him, the hits have purpose. We only view our lives through a very narrow window, so it is impossible to see what this trial will do or create. God answered Job out of a whirlwind and revealed—or reminded him—that He operates on a scale that we will never comprehend. True faith is accepting that God has a plan, even when He chooses not to explain it to us.

This is important for us to understand: Job shows God his agony and frustration in his situation, and God wants this from us. Being open and honest with our Heavenly Father is part of a good relationship with Him. Relying on the Lord's perfect history of being there for you and never letting you down really does help when trusting God in hard times.

Not understanding is okay. Not seeing the big picture is normal. Not getting the answer we want? That's okay too. Where we get it wrong is not moving forward in faith anyway.

God loves you; His plan is to refine you into the beautiful hunk of gold He planned from the beginning. Just as fire refines gold, trust that this trial will strip away all the impurities of trust and comfort not anchored in God. This will develop lasting character and equip you to relate to and show compassion to others hurting around you.

As always, it all depends on your faith and relationship with your Heavenly Father.

[4] You said, ‘Listen and I will speak! I have some questions for you, and you must answer them.’ [5] I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes. [6] I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.”
