Trusting God When Life Doesn’t Make Sense

Isaiah 43:18-19
“But forget all that— it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.”
Receiving encouraging words from the Lord is unlike anything else. It's always timely and absolutely supercharges me. This and His provision are what keep me going and ready to take on whatever is next.
If you've been following along, you know I'm not working. I know it looks lazy or, at the very least, not very smart. It's been incredibly challenging. From the age of 14, I've pretty much had a full-time job until now. All I know is how to use the hands and mind the Lord has blessed me with to fix things. For that to suddenly stop—and to fight back the urge to try and fix our financial problems in my own understanding—is a constant battle. This has been one of the hardest parts of trusting God when life doesn’t make sense.
Last week, I got a prophetic word from a brother, and it was in line with what I was getting from the Lord at that time. I will expand on this tomorrow. The point I want to focus on now is something that, after all this time, made it all worthwhile:
"The Lord says you've done a good job."
Every time the Lord told me to "stay strong, this has a purpose," even in the face of opposition, was all worth it. Hearing this was almost like hearing it from my dad, just a lot better.
The Lord puts us in situations where it looks foolish, like we are making a mistake, or it just doesn't make sense. This is purposeful, and despite what people say, you are expected to obey and stick to the plan.
The reason is pretty clear: if you give up and fix it your way, everyone will know you did it, and based on our history, we will probably screw it up. If you stay strong and let the Lord's plan play out, everyone will see that this was God working in your life. There is no way it could have worked unless God made a way where there was no way.
That is what trusting God when life doesn’t make sense looks like. It isn't always understanding what He is doing. Sometimes it's continuing to obey when you don't understand at all.
Stick to your guns! It won't make sense, and it won't be easy. It will feel like some people turn on you, and there is no support at times. But in the end, God is all you need, and He is worthy of your obedience. Through your steadfast devotion to the Lord, people will see the glory of God shine through each step you take, even if it takes a little time.
God said He would make a pathway through the wilderness and rivers in the wasteland. Sometimes our job isn't to make the pathway ourselves. Our job is to trust Him enough to keep walking until He reveals it.
Do you trust God?
Thank you, Father, for one more day. Amen
Isaiah 30:20-21
“Though the Lord gave you adversity for food and suffering for drink, he will still be with you to teach you. You will see your teacher with your own eyes. Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.”
