Waiting on God Instead of Taking Matters Into Your Own Hands

Exodus 14:13-14
[13] But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. [14] The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”
How is it that doing nothing or standing still can be the most difficult thing to do? I guess it depends on the situation, but when we're talking about a trial or closing or opening doors, we worry. Fear and impatience set in, and a lot of the time, we jump the gun.
For example, as you all know, my truck broke down. After an hour or so of investigation, I found the smoking gun: a broken lifter. This is the worst-case scenario other than the engine blowing a piston out the side of the block. "Bummer, what now Lord? You know we don't have the money for this!"
One side of me says, "You have a credit card, so get the parts ordered, and I can try to do the job here at my house." The other side of me knows that this is happening for a reason. This is another opportunity for me to show that I have faith instead of just saying I have faith.
A rule I developed is that I will wait and not make a decision right away anytime that is possible. This works for me because, in the heat of the moment, I jump to what makes sense in my understanding and try to fix it right away. Most of the time, it's my solution to the problem and not a solution the Lord provided. Making the time to pray, seek the Lord, and practice waiting on God is the difference between life and death in all situations!
I can attest that often it does not feel right to sit back and wait, but a lot of the time, that's exactly what the Lord wants us to do. We get so stuck on autopilot that even during big events, we move through them without a thought of seeking God's way forward.
You know, the only way that has a 100% success rate.
As with everything in this life, the goal is to get you to turn to the Lord about everything. Waiting on God doesn't always mean doing nothing. It means seeking Him before deciding what comes next. That is the only way you will know when it is right to do this or that. This is the only time autopilot is acceptable in this life!
The Lord will fight for you, just stay calm.

Exodus 14:15-18
[15] Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the people to get moving! [16] Pick up your staff and raise your hand over the sea. Divide the water so the Israelites can walk through the middle of the sea on dry ground. [17] And I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they will charge in after the Israelites. My great glory will be displayed through Pharaoh and his troops, his chariots, and his charioteers. [18] When my glory is displayed through them, all Egypt will see my glory and know that I am the Lord!”
