Why You Should Share Your Testimony, Even When It's Uncomfortable

1 Peter 3:15-16
[15] Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. [16] But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ.
Sometimes it takes a special night or gathering to remind you of the importance of each of our testimonies. By the grace of God, every testimony is unique, powerful, and able to reach people that others never could. Peter is encouraging believers to share your testimony and explain the reason for the hope and peace they have, even in the midst of persecution. Their faith caused them to live differently than their neighbors, and people noticed.
How do we respond when someone sees that we are not devastated by sickness or hardship?
How do we respond when the Holy Spirit urges us to speak so that a brother might be encouraged or a sister might find the strength to keep pressing forward? It can be incredibly uncomfortable. Sometimes it feels like your feet—or even your whole body—are glued to the chair, keeping you from getting up. Even in a small group, the fear of saying something wrong or opening your mouth and having nothing come out can be intense.
But if the Lord is leading you to speak, then speak because of the hope you have and because of where that hope comes from. Share your testimony. You don't have to begin with, "Back in '76, I met this man of God." Sometimes your testimony is simply what the Lord did in your life this week. Sometimes it's how He met you in the middle of your struggle and lifted you out of the mud.
I struggle talking about myself because I don't enjoy being the center of attention. I used to tell people I wasn't a public speaker because I would overanalyze every word until I became completely lost. But once the Lord opened my eyes to where the attention was supposed to go, everything changed. When we share, our goal is not to highlight ourselves but to show what God has done. We point to His faithfulness, His grace, and His power, making Him the hero of the story. That takes the focus off of us and simply allows us to remember the goodness of God.
Your story is powerful, and it will continue to grow as you walk with Christ. Share your testimony, even if it seems small. Sharing how you struggled with lust yesterday and how God gave you victory today may be exactly what another brother needs to hear. Remembering God's faithfulness reminds us of His power, and when we tell others what He has done, it strengthens both them and us for the trials still to come.
