Work as Unto the Lord Even When You Don't Understand the Assignment

Today's testimony is brought to you by a life in pursuit of God.
What are we doing? What am I doing? The life of a follower of the Lord is, by design, not a comfortable life. I came to this thought process a while back and have been exploring and digging into the subject. This is my testimony of the Lord revealing to me why I am where I am.
I have been unemployed for a while now, and even though I do not know why the Lord does not want me to work, I am sure this is where I am supposed to be. A week ago on a Tuesday morning, I was at the sink washing dishes. Suddenly, I looked out the kitchen window and asked, "What the heck am I doing?! I am a dang house husband." I am not downplaying that role at all, but for me, I never thought I would be here. I am supposed to be still working on 200k-plus hot rods and supercars, not scraping 3-day-old peanut butter off spoons.
The sinking feeling that I'm making a mistake started to hit hard. Shutting off the faucet, I went and sat at the table and began to pray. "Lord, I don't know the answer, so I'm going to ask You: What the heck am I doing? Did I miss something? Am I really reduced to sitting at home with no money and washing dishes?" I cried out for a while because I was all but convinced that I had missed a turn or an exit somewhere.
Here is the thing that humbled me and opened my eyes: I didn't get a huge miracle, a vision, or a word from a friend. What I got was the Lord reminding me of what I already knew. At the Lord's direction, nothing is insignificant or without meaning and purpose.
Washing dishes is a form of leadership in my household, and the attitude in which it is done is either going to make it a worthy sacrifice or not. We are called to work as unto the Lord in everything we do—not just while working on things I like, things that excite me, or things I see as worthy of my talent. Everything is worthy of our best because the Lord is worthy of our best every time.
The way in which I work either shows thankfulness for something as small as a peanut butter-crusted spoon or selfishness. What I do know is that I am here in this position for a reason, and my duty to God is to work as unto the Lord as I move through this season in a humble, thankful way.
Yes, I am broke, but through the Lord's provision, we still have a house. Yes, I am unsatisfied at times, but through the Lord's love, I am able to remember that this is just a season, and the manner in which I go through it makes a difference.
If you are going through a season of growth, lean into the Lord and seek His comfort and peace by remembering what He's already put in your heart. None of this is wasted or meaningless! Work as unto the Lord and lean not on your own understanding.
Thank You, Father, for one more day. Amen.
