You Were Bought at a Price: 1 Corinthians 6:20 – Honor God with Your Body

A young adult wearing modern clothing with a crude ‘FOR SALE’ sign taped across their chest, boldly stamped with ‘PAID IN FULL.’ Behind them, the left side shows dark city billboards using women’s bodies to advertise luxury items, while the right side glows with a radiant wooden cross and golden sunrise light. Text overlay reads: ‘1 Corinthians 6:20 – Honor God with Your Body.
Bought at the highest price, stamped with grace—your body is no longer for sale. 1 Corinthians 6:20 reminds us to honor God with our bodies, living as His temple.

1 Corinthians 6:20

God paid a great price for you. So, use your body to honor God.

My body was purchased at an extremely high price. The amount my Heavenly Father agreed to pay still blows me away and humbles me. It’s a good thing He didn’t consult me first, because I would have told Him what a bad investment I was.

Full of lust.

Full of anger.

Living a worldly life above all else.

To me, my life was not very valuable. But God not only sees where I am now—He also sees where I will be. What He saw was so valuable that He paid the ultimate price for me.

To be honest, it makes me feel like I need to try harder. Resist harder. Show appreciation for what I could never earn. God’s love for us and the way He values each one of us should inspire us to strive for purity. That means not subjecting our bodies, or the bodies of our brothers and sisters, to lustful thoughts and desires.

This is not my body—I am just managing it for the Owner. Sometimes, I do well and resist temptation, but other times, it feels like I’m back at square one. Still, the calling from 1 Corinthians 6:20 – Honor God with Your Body reminds me that even in failure, I am still His.

What strengthens my relationship with God is constantly talking to Him—confessing, repenting, and hopefully learning for next time. You are created in the image of God. Your body is considered His temple. You were purchased for the ultimate price. To God, you are extremely valuable and worth the cost.

So let the spirit of thanksgiving guide you in how to live a life worthy of the Lord’s sacrifice:

  • Live seeking pure things.

  • Live seeking things that honor the Lord.

  • Live knowing we are the example.

Thank you, Father, for another day. Amen.

1 Corinthians 6:15-19

[15] Don’t you know that your bodies are part of the body of Christ? Is it right for me to join part of the body of Christ to a prostitute? No, it isn’t! [16] Don’t you know that a man who does that becomes part of her body? The Scriptures say, “The two of them will be like one person.” [17] But anyone who is joined to the Lord is one in spirit with him. [18] Don’t be immoral in matters of sex. That is a sin against your own body in a way no other sin is. [19] You surely know that your body is a temple where the Holy Spirit lives. The Spirit is in you and is a gift from God. You are no longer your own.
