A Man of Faith Waits Well by Resting in God’s Promises

Psalms 130:5–6 (CEV)
“With all my heart, I am waiting, Lord, for you! I trust your promises. I wait for you more eagerly than a soldier on guard duty waits for the dawn. Yes, I wait more eagerly than a soldier on guard duty waits for the dawn.”
Promises.
If we’re honest, most of us have rarely encountered people who truly keep theirs. There’s always some reason they fall through—something comes up, priorities shift, or life gets in the way. Over time, broken promises create a natural lack of trust in anyone who says, “I promise.”
But praise God—we have a perfect Promise Keeper in our lives. The Lord’s track record is 100%. Every promise He makes is kept, fulfilled, and completed in the best possible way. That is nothing like the world we live in, where even when people do keep their promises, it’s rarely what they made it out to be.
God is different.
His promises lift us up. His promises bring peace. His promises usher us toward our promised land. His promises are our blessings. And as men of faith, the only thing He asks from us is that we learn the strength of resting in God’s promises.
But what does it mean to truly rest in His promises?
It means trusting Him fully.
If the Lord has promised to restore you—trust Him.
If He says your promised land is near—trust Him.
If He tells you to let go of a situation or a person—trust Him and release it.
If He says the battle is already won—trust Him and stop fighting in your own strength.
Resting in God’s promises means we lay down what we were never meant to carry, and we stop trying to solve battles that only He can win. It means actual rest—mental rest, emotional rest, spiritual rest. It means showing our faith by handing it over to Him and considering it done because His word is as good as finished.
Think about it in a relationship.
If I tell my wife, “I got it,” the thing I appreciate most is her trusting me enough to let me handle it. It’s discouraging when she keeps asking, “Are you sure? Do you need help? Are you doing it right?” It shows she doesn’t trust that I know what I’m doing.
That’s exactly what we show the Lord when we fret, panic, or constantly repeat prayers over something He already told us He would handle. If we give it to Him, we must let go, stop worrying, and rest.
And here’s something I’ve learned the hard way:
Your constant badgering will not speed God up.
In fact, it may delay the growth He’s trying to produce in you.
Each waiting season is designed to strengthen your faith—not weaken it.
So let your faith grow.
Let go.
And rest in His promises.
Rest.
Thank You, Father, for another day. Amen.
Psalms 23:2–4 (CEV)
“You let me rest in fields of green grass. You lead me to streams of peaceful water, and you refresh my life. You are true to your name, and you lead me along the right paths. I may walk through valleys as dark as death, but I won't be afraid. You are with me, and your shepherd's rod makes me feel safe.”
