Trusting God Through Life’s Struggles When Business Becomes a Test of Faith

Today’s testimony is brought to you by our Heavenly Father.
Running a business in California is difficult—especially one that’s already heavily regulated and often looked down on, like auto repair. The people I dealt with from the state were generally kind, but the rules and regulations were not. It was clear early on that you’re considered guilty until you prove your innocence.
Looking back, my business went through constant ups and downs. For the most part, it stayed afloat, but the fight never stopped. One of the biggest challenges was finding mechanics who could actually do what they claimed they could do in the interview. It honestly blew my mind how easily some would lie or embellish, as if I wouldn’t eventually find out. One mechanic cost the business so much money that I truly wondered if we would have to shut the doors for good.
Now, with hindsight, I can see that the entire experience was a training ground—trusting God through life’s struggles in real time. There were always mountains to move and giants to face, and I believe now that it was by design. It felt like a boot camp I couldn’t escape. And because I couldn’t escape it, I was forced to confront every challenge head-on.
In each situation, I had a choice: handle it with my own understanding, or trust the Lord.
And we witnessed miracle after miracle.
One morning, I showed up to the shop and nothing worked. No power. No lights. No computers. No phones. At first, I didn’t even know who to call or where to start. I reached out to a friend who had experience and, by the grace of God, he was immediately available.
Another friend who often stopped by gave me a word from the Lord: “Before the start of business at 8 a.m., it will be fixed.”
When my contractor friend arrived, he warned me it could be a wiring issue somewhere in hundreds of yards of old wiring—and that it might take a long time. As 8 a.m. crept closer, I sat in my chair and began planning the day as if the problem didn’t exist. I had no solution—but I had peace.
A few minutes later, I heard him say, “I found it.”This old building had unusual circuit breakers, and one had failed. About thirty seconds later, the lights came on. The computers powered up. Everything worked.
To me, that was a miracle. And I will tell that story for as long as I live.
Years later—after the business had already closed—the Lord was still showing His faithfulness.
My CPA received a letter from the state rejecting our application to terminate the business because we used “LLC” instead of spelling it out. I didn’t even know that was something that could be rejected.
Nearly a year later, we were told that if we didn’t correct it properly, we would have to refile as if the business were still operating—paying taxes, fees, and meeting regulatory standards all over again. Financially, that would have been devastating.
But this time was different.
This time, I didn’t panic. Not because I didn’t care—but because I knew who my God is. I had already learned what it means to be trusting God through life’s struggles, even when the outcome feels completely out of your control.
I reached out to my wife and a group of brothers and asked for prayer. We handed it to the Lord.
During a phone call with the state, they told us to correct the business name and write “corrected” in the top right corner of the application. We did exactly that—and it was rejected again. This time because we wrote “corrected” in the top right corner.
I wish I were kidding.
I wanted to be angry. But instead, we stayed quiet, stayed obedient, and submitted it a third time. On the 29th—just two days before it would have been too late—we received confirmation that the business was officially terminated.
Praise God.
Problems have a way of appearing out of nowhere, don’t they? And every time they do, they give us the same choice: faith or fear.
Thank You, Father, for one more day.
Amen.
