Get Up and Walk: Acts 3 Devotional on Faith and Healing

A man stands on a city sidewalk with arms outstretched, looking up toward heaven in awe and gratitude, golden light radiating from his knee as a crutch falls to the ground beside him, surrounded by onlookers witnessing his miraculous healing.
“When faith meets God’s power, miracles happen—just like Peter said, ‘Get up and walk.’

I don't have money or possessions, but I'll give you what I have—get up and walk.

Wow! The look on that man's face must have been a sight to see. Peter's faith and that man's faith turned this moment into a story we still read about today. God loves those situations where all kinds of people witness a miracle unfold simply because someone believes.

That same God who healed that man and restored his legs lives in you. The same power Peter tapped into when he told the man to get up and walk lives in you. Peter had seen that power in action with Jesus. He knew it worked, and he knew it was miraculous—just like you do.

You know God is still all-powerful and capable of doing everything we read about. And just like a good salesman believes in what he’s offering, you need to believe in the truth you’re sharing. In evangelism, you must believe that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life before you can convince anyone else of that truth.

When you pray for someone, believe—truly believe—that God can and will heal them. Look at what the Lord has given you to bring to this world as the cure-all, and it becomes easier to share when you know it deep in your heart.

Peter knew and believed in God’s power before he ever spoke to that man. So when he felt led to pray, he expected the man to get up and walk. In Peter’s mind, it was going to happen.

That is the kind of faith that pleases the Lord. Believe!

Amen.

Acts 3:1–9 (NLT)

[1] Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o’clock prayer service.[2] As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate—the one called the Beautiful Gate—so he could beg from the people going into the Temple.[3] When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some money.[4] Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, “Look at us!”[5] The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money.[6] But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!”[7] Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. As he did, the man’s feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened.[8] He jumped up, stood on his feet, and began to walk! Then, walking, leaping, and praising God, he went into the Temple with them.[9] All the people saw him walking and heard him praising God.
