God Is My Rock and Fortress: Strength in Psalm 71:3

Digital painting of a lone figure standing before a towering stone fortress carved into a cliff. A golden glow shines from the entrance and a cross-shaped window, symbolizing God’s refuge and strength. Text at the bottom reads: “God Is My Rock and Fortress – Psalm 71:3.”
Even in life’s darkest storms, God is my rock and fortress—my place of safety and strength (Psalm 71:3).

Psalm 71:3

[3] Be my rock of safety where I can always hide. Give the order to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.[4] My God, rescue me from the power of the wicked, from the clutches of cruel oppressors.

Today is another awesome verse from the Lord. He wants to encourage you.

When we look at God is my rock and fortress Psalm 71:3, we are reminded that we can trust Him to be our place of refuge in times of need. Trouble and danger are everywhere, but we can rest knowing God already has plans to rescue us. He’s always there, which is amazing—because sometimes it feels like trouble is pressing in from every direction, trying to bring us down.

God is our fortress, our rock, and our defender, but here’s the key: we must go to Him. All of those great and awesome things God is for us are worthless unless we choose to remain in His shadow. How can we expect protection from the attacks of the enemy if we wander away from our Defender? We can’t.

The truth in God is my rock and fortress Psalm 71:3 shows us that everything good and wonderful He promises is dependent on our relationship with Him. His safety, His strength, His covering—they are for those who dwell near Him.

Remember to thank God for always being there for you. He has and will use hardships to draw you back under His wings. Stay near to the Father, and if you start to wander, run back—don’t delay. His arms are open wide.

Psalm 71:6–8

[6] Upon You have I relied and been sustained from my birth; You are He who took me from my mother’s womb and You have been my benefactor from that day. My praise is continually of You.[7] I am as a wonder to many, For You are my strong refuge.[8] My mouth is filled with Your praise And with Your glory all day long.
