God’s Provision Was Already in Motion

Today's testimony is brought to you by our Heavenly Father.
Seeing the way the Lord answers prayer is one of the great joys in my life. The provision is awesome, and I am so thankful, but witnessing the creativity in His ways is so cool. Despite the difficulties that come from the hardship we are pushing through, I am convinced that the things we see and are blessed with would not have been here without the trial. It all goes back to my saying, "If you want to have an awesome testimony of God saving you in a big way, you need to be in a position where only God can save you in a big way."
Our situation has not changed at all, other than continued confirmation that we are doing what the Lord wants. My truck is still broken, but we are getting by with one vehicle. The financial situation continues to change our lives and force us to analyze each desire or habit. This makes doing anything extra impossible.
Last weekend was the air show, and it has been a staple of our summer break that goes all the way back to when my dad used to go with us. Missing this show, which seems small, was really difficult because, to me, it represented more than just watching planes fly. It was a tradition that I proudly carried on and would love to see my son do the same with his children. I know these sacrifices are not unseen, and even though it hurts, I gladly give them up in pursuit of obedience.
My wife and I are celebrating our 15-year anniversary on Thursday, and it's been bothering me. We haven't always celebrated or made a big deal out of it, but that was by choice. Now we are unable to celebrate, even if we wanted to. I did not like that.
The Lord knew that this bothered me, and in His grace, He set a plan in motion. I got a text message late last night from someone that changed everything. They said, "I saw that your anniversary was coming up. I would like to hang out with your kids for the night, and I will also be giving you guys some money so you can go out and celebrate."
What?
This really rocked me because I had already anticipated that this would be another sacrifice on our part, and I would just make it special at home. Instead, we got to witness God's provision show up in a way we never could have planned ourselves.
The realization came to me that in the surrender of our desires for each situation, the Lord blesses us with His creative plan. Not only do we get to celebrate, but we don't need to plan anything. We have someone to hang out with the kids, we have money to go out, and we have an awesome God to thank for it all.
This is what amazes me about God's provision. He doesn't always provide the way we expect Him to. Sometimes He waits until we have surrendered our own plan before showing us the one He already had in motion.
Why is it so hard to give up our plans and desires when we know the Lord can bless and provide for us in the most amazing ways?
