Psalms 62:1–2
I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken.
Wait.
Waiting for a situation to change or for something we are promised is not as straightforward as it sounds. It takes patience, faith, and movement.
A lot of the time, when we feel like we are waiting for something, we stand still. We think we are making it easier for God to answer our prayer or provide if we sit on our butts and do nothing. I’ll be the first to admit that it’s difficult to find the motivation to keep moving and growing when a trial is kicking the life out of you. But that is exactly what the Lord wants.
Learning how to wait on God while moving forward in faith is part of the walk every believer eventually has to face.
God’s will does not stop moving forward, and to stay in range of His blessing, we need to keep up.
As humans, we have the natural tendency to sit down in our own mess and wallow in it. Like somehow that will make it better, get us more sympathy, or accomplish something productive. When you really step back and think about it, it’s kind of silly.
God’s will for us is to run this race with endurance.
It doesn’t say run this race until you trip and fall and hurt your knee and then it’s okay to sit out for a while. No—when we fall, the Lord is right there. He’s waiting for us to make the tough decision to get back up and keep going. When we do, He floods us with grace, mercy, and love that overwhelm the negative thoughts and supercharge our endurance.
That is how to wait on God while moving forward in faith—not by sitting in the struggle, but by choosing to get back up and continue the race He set before us.
You will fall. You will make mistakes and slip. There has only been one being who walked this earth and never fell. Jesus is our example and our strength when our minds are focused on things not of this world.
So if you are waiting, keep moving.
If you are struggling, keep moving forward.
If you slipped and broke some bones, get those suckers realigned and hobble your way up the path the Lord laid before you.
Because sometimes how to wait on God while moving forward in faith simply means refusing to stop walking the road He called you to.
We have work to do, and time is of the essence.
Thank you, Father, for one more day. Amen.
Hebrews 12:1–2
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.
