Seeking God First: The Foundation for Every Relationship

Colossians 3:12-14
[12] Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. [13] Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. [14] And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
Today, I am blessed to remember the life and path I started on 15 years ago as we celebrate our anniversary. Looking back over all these years and seeing all the hardships, the times we almost broke, the times we celebrated, the times we cried, and the times we just sat in hope—what an amazing gift!
My beautiful wife is, without a doubt, a Proverbs 31 woman. Seeing her grow from one opportunity to the next is one of the greatest blessings the Lord has given me. Years ago, when I was just starting my relationship with the Lord, I asked Him not only to have my wife follow me, but also to have her surpass me in this pursuit of wisdom, understanding, and a good relationship with Him.
The amount of growth this woman of God has gone through is staggering. This means that in tough times and hardships, she chose faith over fear. The things she says to encourage me are profound and spot-on, leaving me with nothing more to say but, "Thank You." All of this while going through one of our biggest hardships yet. Thank You, Heavenly Father.
Your relationships are depending on you to seek God, whether it's your wife, son, best friend, pastor, brother, or the person you run into at the store. The key to a successful relationship of any kind starts with your relationship with God. Seeking God first changes the foundation we build every other relationship on.
If you are not seeking God's will and His direction for your life daily, every other pursuit will start off on the wrong foot. Seek God above all else and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.
I am thankful for the tough times because even though I may not have seen it at the time, God never left us. We now use those memories as building blocks for our faith. Each tough time is a new block created that the Lord designed to fill a spot in our faith—a perfect foundation for us to lean on in future hardships.
I pray that you will remember that seeking God first is the first step of each day. We don't want to trip with our first steps because we let other things take priority over God's place in our day.
Seek first the Kingdom of God.

Matthew 6:31-33
[31] “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ [32] These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. [33] Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
