Identity in Christ: When God Calls You to Stop Believing the Lies.

A man turns away from a cracked mirror covered with the words “Failure,” “Not Enough,” “Not Worthy,” and “You Have Nothing to Offer,” stepping toward a bright path leading to a cross, symbolizing the choice to reject past lies and believe who God says he is.
The mirror holds decades of lies. The cross holds the truth about who I am.

Today's testimony is brought to you by our Heavenly Father.

I've heard it said that the more you understand, the more your eyes are opened to how little you actually understand. That's me at the moment—I understand very little.

In certain situations, it can be difficult for me to face and work to correct a problem I recognize. My mind will not want to face it because of a defense mechanism that's been created over the course of my life. I hate it; it's embarrassing. The funny thing is, it's not like that in almost any other aspect of my life. If there is a task I need to complete, it does not matter how difficult it is; I will get it done. But when facing a deep-rooted wound that is holding me back, I do what my programming says is right: look the other way.

Thank God He revealed this to me, so now I can stand at this fork in the road and make my choice.

Ok, now for the embarrassing part.

My self-worth, for as long as I can remember, has been destroyed by all of the negative people and situations in my past. I see this now because the realization came to me through prayer. I've had so many awesome and great things and relationships in my life, but of course, the enemy amplified only the bad. In my weakness, I believed it, and it accomplished its goal.

Decades later, I see it, and I see the damage it's created in my wake.

Right now, I am seeing where this wound is holding me back from progressing in certain areas of my walk with the Lord. In particular, my ministry opportunities are limited because those feelings of, "What do I have to offer? I'm a failure," pop up at the perfect time.

It's sick. My mind knows my worth and identity in Christ are not rooted in my failures or accomplishments; they're rooted in who God says I am. If He's called me to a ministry, then my belief in Him should make me bold and determined to move forward in it and believe that it is important.

If He has called me to write a book, then I need to believe that it will touch lives. Not because I'm amazing and you all need to know my life's story, but because I want to obey and glorify God in all I do. My faith in Him and the belief that there is something of value in my story are all I need to take the next step.

The enemy wanted to keep me silent and still for a reason, so now I need to choose daily to be bold and get moving. Understanding my identity in Christ means believing that if God has called me forward, my past doesn't get to decide whether I'm qualified.

I made a choice years ago to follow the Lord on the steep and narrow path; this is the next step. Please pray for strength, boldness, and belief in my value through God to overcome my unbelief.

Thank you, Father, for one more day. Amen.
