James 3:13-14
[13] If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom. [14] But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don’t cover up the truth with boasting and lying.
Today, the Lord wants me to share something I went through yesterday.
Like a lot of people, I don't like confrontation. Not because I'm scared of people, but because I worry about how I will handle it. Coming from a big Italian family where everyone wore their emotions on their sleeve, in the past, I've said things I wish I hadn't. Just one slight sign of disrespect and I used to see red. Thank God I'm a changed man.
Over the past almost seven years, I've learned how to deal with money on a large scale and with debtors. Let's just say that when I started, I had a beard full of color with just a few gray hairs. Now it's fully gray with just a few colored hairs.
As I've said in past messages, over the year after selling the business, it cost me over $50k to close out almost everything that was hanging over my head. I'm proud to say that it's down to one credit card. That one credit card is such a burden, like a thorn in my side reminding me of the past. My unemployment is pretty pathetic, but I am so thankful for anything.
Last month, I wasn't able to make the credit card payment, and after another two weeks went by, the bank started their threats. I started having thoughts of just letting it go and not paying. Of course, the Holy Spirit came in and swatted those thoughts right out of my head, so I prayed about it. I gave it to God.
I didn't hear or feel anything one way or the other, so I opened my Bible app. The verse was the verse above: "Living an honorable life."
After reading this, I knew exactly what I needed to do. If God was calling me to living an honorable life, then I couldn't just walk away from what I owed. I called the bank and was completely honest with them. I told them that I didn't want to ditch them or not pay my debt, but I needed a little help and understanding.
It worked!
The guy was very sympathetic and kind. I've been given six months of interest-free payments of $50. Big change from the almost $400.
Here is the opportunity for a miracle!
The guy I was talking to mentioned that if I came into some money before the six months were up, it would be a good way to knock it down without the interest charge.
Please pray with me. I need a total of $5,000 to pay this off and be debt-free from my business. I know the Lord can provide this, but for some reason, He wanted me to share this with all of you. Maybe part of living an honorable life is trusting God enough to do what is right and then letting Him handle what happens next.
I can't wait to see how this works out and who else will be blessed from this.
All glory to God!
Thank you, Father, for one more day. Amen
James 3:17-18
[17] But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. [18] And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.
