Not Easily Broken: Ecclesiastes 4:12 Three Strands of Strength

Illustration of three men standing shoulder-to-shoulder with a thick braided rope around their waists, forming a protective wall. A glowing figure stands behind them as light breaks through darkness. Text above reads Ecclesiastes 4:12 – A triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
When brothers stand together in Christ, bound by faith like a threefold cord, they become a shield of strength that cannot be broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:12)

Ecclesiastes 4:12

A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.”

The Lord has been giving us different attributes that He would like us to work on. All of them are serious and require commitment and hard work. They will also involve failure—and how to deal with that failure and start growing.

It’s been mentioned a time or two, but the enemy hates you and hates that you want to be better. He wants you to fail and slip back into old habits. He wants you to go at this alone with no help, no accountability, and no prayer, because he knows you won’t make it. He doesn’t even have to try to trip us up in this situation because he knows there is no one to catch us when we slip. That’s exactly why Ecclesiastes 4:12 Three Strands is so powerful—when we stand together, we cannot be easily broken.

God designed us to desire companionship. With women, this often leads to marriage. But beyond that, it leads to friendships that develop into brothers in Christ. I look at the brothers I have and know that when I call in need, they show up. They are like my bodyguards—or more like my soul guards. Always ready with a prayer, encouragement, or even a kick in the butt to get me moving again. That’s the picture of Ecclesiastes 4:12 Three Strands in action: not walking alone, but braided together in strength.

WE NEED THIS!

Reach out. Get coffee. Go for a hike. Take advantage of the opportunities we are blessed with for fellowship and recreation. Let’s make friends who can turn into life-long brothers. Who knows? One day, they may be the very ones God uses to save you from slipping. Amen.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

“Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.”
