Overcoming Doubt With God When You Feel Like You’re Slipping

Exhausted father sitting at a table with an open Bible, head in his hand while his children sit blurred in the background focused on their phones. A handwritten note saying “Keep leading” and a child’s drawing labeled “Best Dad” symbolize the quiet impact of faithful parenting even during seasons of doubt and discouragement.
Sometimes the hardest part of leading your family is wondering if anyone is actually listening. But seeds planted in love, prayer, and consistency often grow quietly before we ever see the fruit. Keep leading. God is working even in the moments that feel discouraging.

Psalms 94:18-19

[18] I cried out, “I am slipping!” but your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me. [19] When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.

Some days, I begin to question if my efforts are making a difference, even with my family. I wonder if my kids are actually listening or if they even care about what I’m trying to teach or share.

Thankfully, the Lord reminds me of my job, my purpose, and what my focus needs to be.

Making sure my example is what it should be, in the good and the bad. I’m loved, so I want to love. I’m forgiven, so I want to forgive. I’m encouraged, so I want to encourage. When I really think about it, I don’t want my son or daughter to feel discouraged by anything I say.

That should remind me to slow down for a second and analyze what I’m about to say. Will it build up or tear down? Responding in love is always the right approach.

Especially when you’re navigating this world, overcoming doubt with God becomes so important. Don’t let doubt hold you back. Let the love and forgiveness you experience every day make you courageous in sharing that same love with other people.

God has not given you a spirit of timidity.

Your example and your story are what really make the biggest difference. Seeing you live out what the Lord has called you to do can become a real turning point for your family and the people around you.

Overcoming doubt with God doesn’t mean you never struggle. It means you trust His hand is there to support you when you start to slip.

Be bold and courageous. Leave doubt and timidity behind and trust that God’s hand is there to help you when fear starts creeping in.

Thank you, Father, for one more day. Amen.

2 Timothy 1:7-8

[7] For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. [8] So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. And don’t be ashamed of me, either, even though I’m in prison for him. With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News.
