Overcoming Insecurity Through Faith: When God Calls You Anyway

A man sits on a rocky path, emotionally reading a message on his phone as dark, shadowy figures behind him symbolize past insecurities and self-doubt. Ahead, a sunlit path leads toward a glowing cross, representing God's calling, hope, and purpose. Text overlay reads, “God doesn't need your confidence. He wants your obedience.”
Sometimes God uses the smallest moments to remind us that our obedience is making a difference.

Today's testimony is brought to you by our Heavenly Father.

Insecurities suck. It's so difficult to let go of the things I know are holding me back. They have developed over my whole life and now do exactly what they were designed to do. Slow me down.

Thankfully, I believe in the Lord's plan for my life more than I believe the junk my insecurities constantly whisper in my ear.

My brother and I were talking yesterday about how important relationships are and how the bad ones create issues that we often don't recognize until decades later. That really opened our eyes to how important it is to be a godly parent who introduces your child to their own relationship with God.

I see now that this is why I walked away from church as soon as I could make my own decisions. This led me down paths and into mistakes that could have easily destroyed my life, but even in my rebellion, God made a way.

My childhood, the mistakes I made, and the pain I endured left their marks, most of which I did not see until recently. The most damaging has been operating out of my insecurity. It ruins relationships, jobs, opportunities, and even the work we are called to do for the Lord.

Ministry is difficult by design. Dedicating time and effort is almost never the problem; it's the insecurity that creeps in and changes things.

Using myself as an example, I sometimes battle insecurities over these simple texts. They are provided by, created by, and given to me by God. Despite knowing all that, I still have times when my insecurity wants to know if they're anything more than just another spam text that gets deleted.

Why do I care?

Of course, I hope these messages reach and help all of you in some way or another because I love you all. But that's not why I do this. I do it because my Heavenly Father called me to. If it helps you, that's just a bonus.

I needed to reach that point of realization where I understood that my obedience is what God wants and what He works through. That needs to be my focus.

Overcoming insecurity through faith means trusting God's calling more than the doubts that try to silence us.

In one of those moments of insecurity, I had a friend I hadn't heard from in a long time reach out to me for prayer and encouragement.

My friend said, "I was told the Lord really speaks to you."

Bam! Right in the feels.

Imagine having a day when the enemy is using your insecurity to attack you, and out of the blue, you get this text.

I pondered what my friend said for about 10 minutes before I replied, "I was told."

It brought tears to my eyes.

It was exactly what I needed to defeat all the negativity in my head and charge me up for all the other opportunities that come my way.

I stopped and prayed earnestly for my friend, and the Lord spoke to me. This went on for most of the afternoon, and I was full of joy just thinking about all the things that led to this divine appointment.

If I had not been struggling at that moment, it would not have had the same impact. If I had given up the first time I felt insecure, my friend would not have reached out.

If the Lord had not done a mighty work in my life and changed my focus from worldly satisfaction to setting my sights on the realities of Heaven, I would not see what I see now.

The Lord's hand at work through my life.

Praise God!

My encouragement to you is to give your insecurities to the Lord. They are weights that slow us down. Overcoming insecurity through faith doesn't mean those doubts never come back. It means learning to trust the One who called us more than the voices that tell us we're not enough.

Lean into your Heavenly Father and let Him help you shed this extra weight. Watch how fast you run!

Thank you, Father, for one more day. Amen.
