Ephesians 5:8–10 (CEV)
[8] You used to be like people living in the dark, but now you are people of the light because you belong to the Lord. So act like people of the light[9] and make your light shine. Be good and honest and truthful,[10] as you try to please the Lord.
“Somebody has a case of the Mondays!”
Yep, that’s me.
After years in the automotive repair industry, surrounded by coworkers who just didn’t care, I developed a deep dread for Mondays. I can sit on the side of my bed and pray, give myself a pep talk, and still—if I’m honest—it takes everything in me to stand up and get ready. Mondays have always been tough.
But this morning, God brought me to Ephesians 5:8–10 as encouragement. And I want to share it with anyone who might feel the same way. The darker the Monday, the brighter we’re called to shine. Shining God’s light at work isn’t about how much we enjoy our job—it’s about who we represent while we’re there.
We don’t work for man. We work for our Heavenly Father.
When we march into work with that mindset, everything changes. We’re not just clocking in—we’re stepping into a mission field. Every coworker, every customer, every moment is an opportunity to reflect Christ’s light. There are lost souls around us, and those souls will respond to the light if we let it shine through us.
Don’t let the enemy creep in and discourage you about having to go to work. That’s not the focus. The real question is: How many people can you impact while you’re working?
When I shift my mindset to this perspective, it lifts my spirit. It’s like I’m on a secret assignment that my boss doesn’t even know about. That thought gives me peace—because even if I’m stuck in a job I don’t love, I know I have purpose beyond their requirements. Shining God’s light at work means showing up with integrity, even when others cut corners or don’t care.
Repaying right for wrong isn’t something the world understands. But when we respond with goodness, honesty, and truth, the love of God shines through our actions. Others take notice. They see something different—something real.
So, as you head into your Monday, remember this: the darker the workplace, the brighter your light can shine.
Thank you, Father, for another day to be a light in the darkness. Amen.
Ephesians 5:13–14 (CEV)
[13] But the light will show what these things are really like.[14] Light shows up everything, just as the Scriptures say, “Wake up from your sleep and rise from death. Then Christ will shine on you.”
