Steadfast Grit: Obedience No Matter the Cost

Have you ever felt like Job?
It’s almost hard to admit, because no matter how difficult my circumstances feel, I know they could be worse. Job endured unimaginable suffering—he lost everything, even his family. That kind of pain? I can’t—and don’t want to—imagine it.
Still, I’ve had some moments recently where I felt very Job-like, where it was obedience no matter the cost. And oddly enough, it helped. It reminded me to remain faithful and to rest in the promises of God.
If you’re walking through your own “Job experience,” go back and read that book. That’s why it’s there—to show us what faultless, faithful living looks like when we’re standing in the fire. When everything is stripped away and we’re pushed to the very edge, God’s Word shows us how to stand firm.
This trial you’re facing? It’s doing something. It might make sense later. Or it might not. But either way, don’t miss this: our greatest growth comes when our faith, obedience, and understanding are pushed to the limit.
Just like it says in James 1:
“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.”(James 1:2–4, NLT)
Let it grow.
Don’t lose faith.
We serve a God who is never without a plan—and never loses sight of it.
Trust Him. Obey Him. No matter the cost.
Everything we see now will eventually fade. But what is unseen—what is promised—will last forever.
Let’s get our perspective right.
Let’s walk in obedience, no matter what.
Amen.
Job 27:1-11
[1] Job continued speaking: [2] “I vow by the living God, who has taken away my rights, by the Almighty who has embittered my soul— [3] As long as I live, while I have breath from God, [4] my lips will speak no evil, and my tongue will speak no lies. [5] I will never concede that you are right; I will defend my integrity until I die. [6] I will maintain my innocence without wavering. My conscience is clear for as long as I live. [7] “May my enemy be punished like the wicked, my adversary like those who do evil. [8] For what hope do the godless have when God cuts them off and takes away their life? [9] Will God listen to their cry when trouble comes upon them? [10] Can they take delight in the Almighty? Can they call to God at any time? [11] I will teach you about God’s power. I will not conceal anything concerning the Almighty.
