Surrender to God: The Truck Was Still Broken, but My Worry Was Gone

Surrender doesn’t always change the situation—it changes who is carrying the weight. Give it to God, be still, and trust Him with what happens next.

Matthew 7:7-8 

[7]  “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. [8] For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

I had something happen last night that I wanted to share with all of you. To understand it fully, I want to back up a little bit.

Yesterday morning, I was deep in prayer and felt convicted about letting go of my possessions. After pondering it for a little bit, the Lord revealed that my truck, my bank account, and a few other things are of concern to me. I don't believe I idolize them, but like the last few messages talked about, I've had a hard time letting go of my understanding of how these things should be or could be handled.

So I prayed and imagined myself giving the keys to my truck to the Lord. It has been the biggest thing on my and my wife's mind lately since it's just sitting in the driveway. In that moment, when I felt the Lord take the keys from me, I felt peace. It felt like I knew the truck had a purpose in its current state, and I am looking forward to finding out what that is. The worry and concern about it are gone. Praise God.

That is what it can look like to surrender to God. The situation hadn't changed. The truck was still sitting in the driveway. But something in me had changed because I had finally handed it over to Him.

Later that afternoon, my wife sat across from me at the table, and with frustration in her eyes, she said, "Why don't we just sell the truck as is? I don't think it's good for it to just sit there."

My first thought was, she's not wrong. The second thought was, are we thinking this out of frustration?

The Lord heard our frustration, and to comfort us and remind us that He's got this, a brother of mine texted me at that very moment. It said, "BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM THE LORD GOD ALL POWERFUL."

Wow! The God we serve saw us in this real moment and used a brother to put His hand on us and comfort us. After sharing that with my wife, I got excited! I knew that text answered that question, and because we were told to wait, to me that means the Lord has something bigger in store for it.

I am looking forward to sharing with all of you how the Lord makes a way where there is no way, again.

Here is the point of this whole story: If I had not chosen to surrender to God and give Him my truck that morning, I don't know that I would have received that text the same way later in the day. The text didn't fix the truck. It didn't put money in the bank. It didn't explain what God is going to do next. But it reminded us who is in control.

Sometimes surrender doesn't immediately change the situation. Surrender to God changes how we stand in the middle of it.

I pray that this causes you to search your own heart and find what the Lord is asking you to surrender.

[17] For I cried out to him for help, praising him as I spoke. [18] If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. [19] But God did listen! He paid attention to my prayer. [20] Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer or withdraw his unfailing love from me.
