The Cleansing Touch: Pursuing Holiness

Updated: Jun 24

A radiant, divine hand emits golden light as it gently cleanses a dirty human heart, symbolizing God’s power to purify and restore through His holiness.
When we surrender our mess to Him, He doesn’t discard us—He restores us.

2 Corinthians 7:1 (NLT)

"Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God."

What promises is Paul referring to here? The promises that all believers have been given from our Father—chief among them: He will be our Father, and He will welcome us into His presence forever. These promises aren’t earned by how well we perform. They are rooted in Jesus alone.

Because we have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us, we must remain aware of anything in our lives that stands in opposition to God—and actively fight to remove it. This isn’t unfamiliar ground. We’ve fought this battle before, and we know the road it takes us down. But praise God—we’re never trapped. He has made a way out, every single time.

Still, let’s be honest: purity can feel like an impossible goal or a losing battle. There’s so much filth out there competing for our attention—and the worst part? It works. We glance. We linger. We remember. We dwell. The enemy does not play fair. He hunts our deepest desires and dangles temptation right in front of our eyes.

But here's the good news: our Father knows this. He is more than able to handle and defeat the enemy—you are not. So we cling to His promises. They don’t just bring comfort; they fuel a desire for purity. The cleansing God calls us to isn’t limited to obvious sins or “big” failures. It’s a full sweep—of body, mind, and spirit. We must pursue holiness.

The best part? You’re not alone. You have everything you need to pursue purity through the love and power of the Lord. Praise God for His grace and His desire to help us in our weakness. Stay close to Him. Read His Word daily. Ask Him to help you cleanse your life. We can’t expect a deep, growing relationship with the Father if we’re holding onto things that oppose Him.

So start the cleaning. Pray. Ask God to reveal what He wants you to deal with first. And trust Him to walk with you through it.

“Thank you, Father, for your promises that inspire change. Amen.”

1 Thessalonians 4:4–8 (NLT)

[4] Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor— [5] not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways. [6] Never harm or cheat a fellow believer in this matter by violating his wife, for the Lord avenges all such sins, as we have solemnly warned you before. [7] God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives. [8] Therefore, anyone who refuses to live by these rules is not disobeying human teaching but is rejecting God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.

Wear the Message. Live the Mission.
