Trust God for Direction: When an Unexpected Door Opens

Man sitting in a dark room holding a glowing phone, looking toward an open door filled with warm light forming a cross and revealing a path ahead, symbolizing trusting God for direction and recognizing unexpected opportunities.
The direction you’ve been praying for might come through something you almost ignored.

Revelation 3:8

[8] I know everything you have done. And I have placed before you an open door no one can close. You were not very strong, but you obeyed my message and did not deny you are my followers.

Direction.

I'm feeling really excited today—more than yesterday. I usually wake up with anticipation, but today feels a little extra special.

What’s it like when you don’t know what direction to take? I think for followers of God, it often comes down to waiting and learning to trust God for direction, even when nothing seems to be moving. That “down time” can actually teach us things we wouldn’t learn any other way.

But let’s be honest—waiting can be draining. It can leave you feeling exhausted even when you haven’t done much. The lesson in those moments is finding peace and rest while you wait. Trusting God for direction is the only way to quiet the anxiety, the overthinking, and the stress that tries to take over.

Yesterday afternoon, I got a message on social media from someone I hadn’t talked to in a while. I’m not really a fan of social media anymore, so I don’t respond much. But for some reason, I felt led to reply—and I did.

We started catching up, and I was honest about where I’m at right now. I told him I was unemployed. Instead of giving advice or asking why, he said he’d pray for me and encouraged me to trust God for direction.

I appreciated that more than he probably realized.

Then something unexpected happened.

He offered me a job.

It’s unlike anything I’ve done before, and right away I felt like it could be from the Lord. My first thought was, I have no idea how I’m even going to do this. But right after that came a different thought:

If the Lord brought me here, I need to give it my best shot and see what I can do.

Right now, I’m still in the process—asking questions, gathering information, and waiting. But this moment reminded me of something powerful:

God knows how to open doors we never could.

And when He does, it’s not about having everything figured out. It’s about being willing to walk through them in faith.

Please pray with me that my eyes will be open to see everything I’m supposed to see, and that I make a wise decision rooted in trusting Him.

Thank you, Father, for one more day. Amen.

Proverbs 3:5-7

[5] With all your heart you must trust the Lord and not your own judgment. [6] Always let him lead you, and he will clear the road for you to follow. [7] Don’t ever think that you are wise enough, but respect the Lord and stay away from evil.
