2 Chronicles 7:12-16
[12] Then one night the Lord appeared to Solomon and said, “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this Temple as the place for making sacrifices. [13] At times I might shut up the heavens so that no rain falls, or command grasshoppers to devour your crops, or send plagues among you. [14] Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. [15] My eyes will be open and my ears attentive to every prayer made in this place. [16] For I have chosen this Temple and set it apart to be holy—a place where my name will be honored forever. I will always watch over it, for it is dear to my heart.
Today I felt that I needed to just share this scripture. The Lord speaking to Solomon after he built and dedicated the Temple of the Lord is pretty awesome. When I read it, I see my life, or the life of a follower of God. Things are good for a bit, then things are not so good. We slip, we make the wrong choice, fall away, and start to veer off course. In His perfect love for us, we receive the Lord’s loving correction. It hurts, and it will cost us, but it becomes our way back onto the path He has for us and starts the healing process. Our pain in this life has purpose.
God’s perfect love actually involves pain and suffering, because we know firsthand that those are often the best teachers. I may not remember everything I’ve been through, but I vividly recall the big painful mistakes and the course corrections. Looking back, I can see how God’s loving correction kept me from completely destroying myself with my own choices.
God is always faithful and just to forgive us when we humble ourselves and turn away from that path of destruction. Sometimes His correction feels painful in the moment, but God’s loving correction always comes from a place of mercy, love, and restoration. Thank God for His loving course corrections.
Thank you, Father, for one more day. Amen.
Psalms 30:4-5
[4] Sing to the Lord, all you godly ones! Praise his holy name. [5] For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.
