Matthew 6:33-34
[33] Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.[34] So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
Is there any part of our lives that is 100% stress free? I haven’t found it. Kids, work, cars, and houses all have the ability to stress us out at a moment’s notice. It’s so easy to let the stress of whatever issue is before us control our reaction. Stress clouds our thoughts and judgment and can burn down relationships if we let it.
But the Lord tells us to seek first the Kingdom of God—to focus our gaze on things beyond this life. He calls us to live righteously each day by resting and believing in His promises. And He makes us this incredible promise: If you seek first the Kingdom of God, He will provide for you and give you everything you need for each day.
So what gets in the way of this promise working in our lives? Just as we touched on the other day—it’s our lack of belief. Our lack of faith that God will come through like He says He will. If God only sometimes kept His promises, then maybe it would be understandable to stress and worry.
But thankfully, we serve the God of Moses and Jacob—the God who led Joshua and the Israelites to their promised land. With every situation in Scripture, God makes a promise and keeps it. He doesn’t change His mind or give up on us when we stumble.
No, sir. Our God knows who we are and loves each of us individually. He doesn’t want us to live in stress and fear. Instead, He invites us: Seek first the Kingdom of God and give Him your cares and worries, for He cares for you.
Getting rid of stress starts with belief and faith in God. If He is who He says He is, and you believe that, then there is no more room for worry. Pray about this today. Ask God to search your heart and show you where you need to trust Him more deeply.
Believe. Rest. Seek first the Kingdom of God.
Amen.
Matthew 11:28-30
[28] Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.[29] Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.[30] For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
