Romans 12:12
“Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.”
Life is a real blessing. Life is a real pain. Sometimes, there’s no middle ground. It can flip from laughter and joy to sadness and despair in a heartbeat.
Right now, my family is being called to do some big things. And with that call comes all kinds of good—and not so good. My wife has been led by the Lord to retire from teaching and homeschool our kids. There’s also a job opportunity that could work out beautifully. She’s interviewed and is following the breadcrumbs God seems to be laying out. But it’s not easy.
The enemy is doing everything possible to throw us off course. I can handle the attacks that come my way, but I’ll be honest—what breaks me is watching my family take the hits. The enemy is targeting my wife physically, mentally, and spiritually. And as much as we’re staying strong and listening to God's voice, it’s hard.
As her husband, I just want to punch Satan in the face for what she’s enduring.
Some days I'm full of anger. Others, sadness. Still others, joy and hope. Sometimes all of it at once.
That’s why this verse—Romans 12:12—brings me so much comfort. It reminds me that even when I can't fix what’s happening - when I am in spiritual warfare - I can rejoice in our confident hope. I can be patient in the midst of the trouble. And I can keep on praying. Because I know she’s staying the course. I know she’s in God’s will and under His protection. And even though I hate watching her suffer, I trust that God is using this for something greater—something I may not fully see or understand yet.
So I hold on. I rejoice. I trust. And I keep praying.
Our confident hope. Our joy. Our rest—found in God alone.
Philippians 4:6–7
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
