Seek the Kingdom of God First and Trust Him With Tomorrow

Illustrated scene of a mechanic standing in a dim garage, holding a broken bolt with one hand and an open palm with the other, pausing in surrender as warm light shaped like a cross shines through the doorway, symbolizing trusting God instead of worrying about tomorrow.
Sometimes the hardest act of faith isn’t doing more—it’s letting go. Worry tells us we have to fix everything. God invites us to trust Him with what we can’t control.

Matthew 6:33–34

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

Stress and worry. For a lot of us, we feel like we have this under control—until something big comes up.

“Of course I’m worried. This is a huge problem!”

At one point in my life, I thought worry was a normal part of the process. I even believed it was a compliment. “I was worried about you.” To me, that meant I cared. It meant I loved.

Oh, how my understanding has changed.

To seek the Kingdom of God first means living each day with our energy and time focused on glorifying Him. This applies to everything—from brushing your teeth to the way you talk to people you don’t know. Our focus should always be obedience and honoring God. When we seek the Kingdom of God first, we shift our attention to what will last for eternity instead of what is ultimately meaningless.

The reality is, we will fail. But those failures are part of the growth process. They’re often the moments we learn from the most.

As a mechanic, I’ve made mistakes working on cars. One of the worst is when something breaks—a bolt, a part, or something totally unrelated to the job at hand. Most of the time, it happens because I was trying to rush or was so focused on one thing that I overlooked something else. It cost me time, money, and a headache.

But the next time? I used that experience. I paid closer attention. I slowed down. I made better decisions.

It’s the same when we seek the Kingdom of God first in our daily lives.

Sometimes we drop the ball. We let fear and worry take the lead when we should have prayed first and laid it at God’s feet. We forget to trust Him with tomorrow.

It’s tough when the money doesn’t come in when the bills are due. Fear creeps in.

What if we lose the house?

What if we lose the car?

Each of these moments is an opportunity to seek the Kingdom of God first—to surrender our worries and trust Him completely. When we do that, we step into His promise to provide exactly what we need for today and release the fear of tomorrow.

If that’s the agreement we have with our Heavenly Father, then what is there to worry about?

Thank You, Father, for one more day.

Amen.

Luke 12:29–31

“Don’t be concerned about what to eat and what to drink. Don’t worry about such things. These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but your Father already knows your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and He will give you everything you need.”
