This Time I Didn’t Panic – Choosing Confident Hope in God

Split-screen image of a wife sitting in a car looking panicked while on the phone and a husband calmly speaking on his phone at home, symbolizing choosing confident hope in God during unexpected problems.
She felt the panic rising, he chose peace—sometimes faith shows up in the tone of your voice before it shows up in the outcome.

Romans 15:13

“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Hope.

Life in this world apart from God is hopeless. There is no real purpose, and that makes hardships devastating. We’ve all experienced how quickly problems arise. You can be perfectly fine one second, then receive a text or call that can wreck you—if you’re not prepared.

I’m learning that letting a tough situation or not-so-good news completely break you reveals something deeper. It exposes where your trust really sits and whether you truly believe in God’s plan.

One thing I try to stay ahead of is vehicle issues. The Lord has blessed me with a long career and a solid understanding of vehicles. When it comes to what my wife and I drive, I feel it’s my duty to be a good steward of those gifts. As soon as we receive a vehicle, I service everything. From that point forward, I know what’s due and what condition it’s in.

Even with all that preparation, I still got the call.

“My truck won’t start. It says low battery. And I need to be somewhere soon!”

In that moment, I wanted to shout, “Seriously? After everything, now I need to buy a $200 battery?!”

But this time was different.

I remembered.

Just the day before, the Lord had provided in a big way. This situation? It was small in comparison. Instead of spiraling into frustration, I chose confident hope in God. I told her to grab a ride, and I’d handle it after work. I got home, replaced the battery, and everything was fine.

It was just a dead battery.

But it was also a test.

Everyday problems have a way of revealing whether we live in panic or in confident hope in God. In that moment, God’s plan hadn’t changed. He was still good. He still loved us. He was still providing.

These situations are opportunities. Opportunities to see His love in action through trust in His promises. Being patient and trusting Him means believing He will keep His word—often in creative and unexpected ways.

I pray that whatever you’re pushing through right now, you pause. Ask the Lord if you’re responding correctly. Have the courage to make a change if needed. Sometimes He wants patience and waiting. Sometimes He simply wants us to step aside and stop trying to control everything.

And sometimes, growth looks like this:

This time, you didn’t panic.

God is good.

Thank you, Father, for one more day. Amen.

Psalm 31:19

“How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world.”
