Trusting God After Losing a Job — When His Timing Is Different Than Ours

Man sitting in a car holding a termination notice while looking down in worry, with an open Bible showing 1 Peter 5:6–7 on the seat and a house with a glowing cross visible outside, symbolizing trusting God after losing a job.
Sometimes the moment we fear the most is the moment God asks us to trust Him the most.

1 Peter 5:6–7

“So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”

Heavy.

Today my heart and mind are heavy.

I was fired yesterday. The reasons listed were untrue. I did not fit in. I said some things that the second in command did not like, and it cost me.

Or did it?

I am still processing everything, but this may actually be an answer to prayer.

During a brief morning text to my wife, I let her know that work was insanely busy and I barely had time to reply. Even in the middle of that busy day, I kept feeling undervalued and unappreciated. It was frustrating because I am loyal to a fault. I worked when I was sick, and I stand up for what is right.

At first, it felt like none of that mattered. I stood up for what I believed, and it cost me a job.

But my wife’s prayer that morning was simple. She prayed that the Lord would make it absolutely clear to me that day whether I was valued or not. She was obviously hoping it would be the other way, but this was the Lord’s answer.

It was time to move on.

Honestly, I had prayed many times that something else would come along, but I stayed until the Lord’s timing was right. And for that reason, I am at peace.

Trusting God after losing a job is not always easy, especially when the situation feels unfair or confusing. But Scripture reminds us that God’s timing is different than ours, and sometimes He closes a door so He can lead us somewhere new.

1 Peter 5:6–7 reminds us to humble ourselves under the mighty power of God and to give Him our worries and cares, because He truly cares about us.

Life as a follower of God has a way of surprising us sometimes.

I had no idea my words would be taken the way they were and used against me, especially after all this time of showing that I cared about the people and the company. But looking back, I can see that this moment is forcing me to lean more fully on the Lord.

And that is exactly what trusting God after losing a job looks like.

I am thankful it is over.I am thankful it happened in the Lord’s timing. And I am thankful that whatever happens next is in the Lord’s hands.

Even when life feels heavy, I know I do not have to carry it alone.

Please keep us in your prayers.

Thank you, Father, for one more day.

Amen.

1 Peter 5:8–11

“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are. In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. All power to him forever! Amen.”
