Psalms 37:8
“Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper— it only leads to harm.”
Our anger is not capable of producing righteousness. A lot of us, me included, like to justify our anger and our response.
“The kids were so disobedient!”
“That guy cut me off and almost caused a wreck!”
“My paycheck was short!”
By the world’s standards, you have every right to be angry in each of those situations. But God calls us to something higher—He invites us to begin turning anger into grace. The Lord warns us that our anger is set to destroy and tear down. In those heated moments, we often say things we regret, losing the opportunity to show God’s love when it’s needed most.
To truly begin overcoming anger with God’s love, we must be intentional about making a change in our hearts. That change starts by training ourselves, in the very heat of the moment, to pause and pray. Ask the Lord for help. He’s right there—waiting for you to make the right decision. And when you do, He floods you with grace and love, empowering you to overflow onto the person who needs it most.
Over time, you’ll begin to see that the situations that once made you angry are now opportunities to show Jesus through words that build up rather than tear down. It’s not about ignoring the frustration or pretending it’s not there—it’s about surrendering it to God and allowing His Spirit to transform it into grace.
Now is the time to train yourself. Make it a habit to pray the moment you feel anger rising inside you. Let that be your signal to rely on God’s power, not your own. We will fall short at times, but with the Lord’s help, we can overcome.
Thank you, Father, for another day. Amen.
