2 Corinthians 4:16–17
[16] That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.[17] For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!
Just like that, all the Christmas and New Year’s celebrations are over. I know a lot of you have resolutions that you will try your hardest to keep, and I pray that you do. We all know the age-old story—on the first of the year, the gyms are full. Wait a month or two, and they start to thin out.
Why? Because motivation fades quickly when everything in our world is telling us this food is okay, this body is okay, it’s normal to constantly be at the doctor, illness is expected, and hard work is bad. That mindset is dangerous. Complacency kills.
Jesus taught us that we must constantly evaluate our lives and pray for God to reveal what we need to work on. A life following the Lord is not stagnant—it is continually challenged and growing. That’s why we never give up. We need spiritual resolutions. Goals. Desires. Expectations.
But these can’t be made or kept under our own power. The only way we never give up is through the power of Christ within us. True success comes when these goals are revealed by the Lord Himself—and when He strengthens us to walk them out.
There will never be a point in our lives where we can stop growing or learning. Use the motivation the Lord provides, not the temporary motivation of the world. We owe God our lives. That kind of gratitude produces endurance. We never give up out of thankfulness and humility as we work toward the goals set by our Heavenly Father.
And we do this for a glory far greater than anything this world can offer—one that will outlast everything we see around us. It will last forever.
Thank You, Father, for one more day. Amen.
2 Corinthians 4:18
So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
