Armor Up or Crash Out: Fighting Worry with God's Word

Updated: Jun 24, 2025

Illustration of a medieval knight in full armor standing strong with a sword and shield, contrasted by a fallen warrior on the ground. Bold gold text reads “Armor Up or Crash Out” on a dark, textured background, symbolizing spiritual readiness and the consequences of worry.
Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. - Ephesians 6:13-17

1 Peter 5:7“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”

Worry—what a strange beast that is. I say it like that because of how quickly it can get out of control. Most of us know by now that giving God your worries and cares is a good thing. It’s the only real answer to each of them. When you think about what the Bible tells us—and what Jesus actually said—there are very clear instructions on what to do when we start our day.

Does it say to worry about what might happen in three months? Nope. Does Jesus say, “Make sure you ask God for extra so you have a few days’ worth of provisions just in case?” Again—nope.

Matthew 6:34“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

Jesus was spot on. Focus on what the Lord has put in front of you. Tomorrow will bring its own set of troubles. To me, that promotes the command of putting on the armor of God—daily.

This prepares us for whatever rolls in. Each day, the Lord wants to equip you to handle whatever shows up. He sets it out for us. We just need to get our butts up and put it on.

The days we get caught off guard and wrecked? Those are the days we missed a step. Maybe we woke up feeling strong—like, “I got this. Lord, you can take a break.” It’s kind of funny—if I hadn’t been down that road personally. But it was a painful experience, and one I won’t forget.

God knows our limits—we do not. God knows what we can handle emotionally—we do not. He is trustworthy. He has not, and will not, let us down. Giving Him your worries and cares should be a daily occurrence. We’re just like children, though. As soon as we give it away, all we can do is think about it. We want to look at it, play with it, and eventually try to take it back.

Give it to God—and let go.

This commitment will need to be renewed throughout the day, especially when the enemy starts whispering those thoughts: “You can handle it.” “You don’t need God’s help.”

That’s when I start hearing the theme song from a show my kids and I used to watch called “Seconds from Disaster.” Because that's exactly what it is.

I pray this opens your eyes to the life we’re called to: a life of daily surrender; of giving our worries and cares to God—and fighting throughout the day to resist the urge to take them back; a life where God gives you exactly what you’re supposed to handle, and He handles the rest. Fight worry with God's Word!

Deuteronomy 31:6 [6] So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”
